This picture pretty much sums up how Marie and I felt this morning - we already missed Connor. Both of us had a terrible time getting going today. I had a 9:00 coaching session, but Marie slept in. As the day wore on, we both felt like we'd gone 10 rounds. Guess we didn't realize the physical pace we'd set for ourselves over the last week. I finally forced myself out the door and took a long walk, which helped a bit; a shower did the rest to get me going.
Marie wanted to pay another visit to Double Take, a funky store on Guadalupe Street. Part Native American jewelry store, part secondhand cowboy (and girl) boot store, and part consignment shop for used clothing, shoes and accessories, our first visit had been cut short. This time we wandered around for about an hour, and Marie bought a used bag/purse and book and really enjoyed herself. Part of her brightened mood was a new knee brace that we bought on the way out that seemed to give her improved support (and less pain).
Marie was feeling so good that we popped more quarters in the meter and hoofed it over to the Plaza. Our first stop was Keshi, a store started by school teachers to sell fetishes and jewelry from the Zuni Pueblo. I'd been wanting to check it out ever since we got here, but it seemed every time we passed it it was closed. It's not a very big store, but it's chock full of great stuff. We spent quite a bit of time there, bought a few things and chatted up the owner and her friend visiting from Bellingham, WA about things to see and do in and around Santa Fe. Keshi is a must-see for anyone visiting Santa Fe, and we'll be back.
By this time we were getting hungry, so we ate a light dinner at Blue Corn Cafe. I was reluctant to eat out because it seems like we've been eating non-stop out here, but the shrimp quesadillas and tortilla soup hit the spot. We decided to walk off our dinner around the Plaza, and a miracle happened. We found Farkel!!! I'm sure you'd be as excited as I am if you had any idea what I was talking about. In late March/early April, Marie went to Phoenix with her watercolor class to paint the cactus blooms. At least that's what they said they were going to do. To listen to Marie when she got back, they played Farkel the entire time. She raved about this game so much that we've been on a quest to find it ever since. I was beginning to think she'd made the whole thing up when ... there it was, for $8.99, in the Plaza 5 & 10! Needless to say, we grabbed it, raced to the counter and paid for it. Then we raced home and ... read our books and the paper. When we finally crack open Farkel, I'll share my first person impressions here.
So, it's off to bed for me - I have three coaching calls tomorrow morning for the Loyola University ELMBA Program starting at 7:00 am (9:00 am EDT).
